The Fund to Build Grassroots Power is a national intermediary fund building the capacity of grassroots environmental and climate justice groups to advance their communities’ needs.
Grassroots organizations are critical to building powerful environmental and climate justice movements. The Fund to Build Grassroots Power (the Fund) grants to grassroots organizations that are advancing environmental and climate justice within the United States.
The Fund is a movement-accountable intermediary fund that uses trust-based philanthropy and participatory grantmaking to support grassroots groups that are part of four national networks; Climate Justice Alliance, the Environmental Justice Leadership Forum (coordinated by WE ACT for Environmental Justice), the People’s Action Institute, and PowerSwitch Action (formerly Partnership for Working Families). Over the past 6 years, the groups have worked to distribute $34M to 136 groups in every region of the country. In our last docket, 87 percent of grantees were led by BIPOC leaders, and 78 percent were led by people who identify as women, femmes, gender nonbinary, or trans.
